Time for some originality
As a real estate agent I see soooooo many listings and read a multitude of agent comments. Some agents really excel at writing comments that make you want to go and see the home. Others…well…let’s just say they could use a little creative writing course.
Some of the most overused words…
- Location, Location, Location…I think if I hear this one more time, I’m going to keel over and die. Just because it has a good location on a cul-de-sac doesn’t mean a buyer is going to overpay.
- Desirable neighborhood. I am sure there are other words for desirable in the Thesaurus. Apparently there are a multitude of such neighborhoods in Salem. Maybe we should call it the #1 or #2 most desirable neighborhood?
- Stunning! Stunning is relative. I have seen some seriously not so stunning homes labeled that way.
- Cozy. Could mean cozy; could mean so tiny you can’t get a plasma tv in here.
- Must see! Must Visit! I always like when I see this comment with no interior photos, or interior photos that are so bad, I’m not sure what it is that I “must see.”
- Not a drive by. What this means is the exterior is so ugly, you won’t naturally want to come and see inside.
- Conveniently located. Typically this means you can hear highway traffic from the house, or it’s on a major road.
- . I didn’t forget to write anything. But I’m seeing a lot of listings with no comments and only an exterior photo. Not exactly wanting to make me show it to my buyer.
I could go on, but you get the idea.
I am by no means a professional writer, but some originality would be nice. In a market inundated with inventory, it would behoove agents to steer clear of the most overused words in real estate. Sellers need us, more now than ever, to help differentiate their home on the market.
