Like many honest agents, I lose some business to other agents that make outlandish promises.
“I can sell it for $1,000,000 more than any other agent.”
“I’ll have multiple offers for you within 24 hours.”
“I will hold an open house for you every weekend.”
I always wonder why sellers often choose Pinocchio over a professional. Selling a home is not like living in a fairy tale. We don’t have stunning castles made of gold where everyone is happy and gets what they want in the end. The real world is much less kind.
Often these sellers have such a negative experience with the Pinocchio agent that they generalize that to other agents. Professional agents work hard to educate and inform our sellers and buyers so they can make good sound decisions for themselves. At the end of the day, we take pride in knowing that we helped someone reach their goal, and did so with integrity.
If I price your home, I will give you my honest opinion of what I think it really will sell for, even if it is not what you want to hear. If I go the route of Pinocchio, then you will be disappointed within a matter of weeks. I’d rather disappoint you with honest pricing, than to watch my nose grow and disappoint you later.
